06/04/2007: "make time for your elders" mood: rest-less

i have jst come across this article in the newspaper where it's heading is "Make time for your elders" High-paced lifestyle & distance shouldn't be an excuse. Would certainly agree to the article that has been written by one of the bb's editor.
He said :

When was the last time you paid a visit to your parents and grandparents? If it takes you a while to recall, then i sugges this would be the right time to start your car engine and drive to the doorstep. Or mayb even a simpler way jst pick up the phone and give them a buzz. I think for sure they will feel very happy abt it.

Most of us may not realise this, especially as we drift in the fast pace of modern life that we somehow tend to neglect, or even worse, not even bother to give any attention to out parents or grandparents.
Sad to say, but this is a true fact. There are several factors leading to this situation, such as putting too much commitment on work, placing more priority on spending time with friends and partners instead of family or even simply putting the blame on distance to be the reason for not visiting.

Have you ever taken the time to reflect on the past, which I certainly believe would outweigh any one of the mentioned factorss? Like the time when your parents were there to take care ofyou in time of sickness, giving endless support in times of hardship, staying up almost every night when you were still an infant and so much more. The conclusion I am trying to draw is, they were there for you. But the question is, will you be there for them?

It is no secret that the most joyful day for every parent and grandparent is the very day u entered his or her life. Every single step in your growth and development would melt their hearts, as watching you grow with their very own eyes is like watching the best movie ever, from the first footsteps you take to the first word that comes out of your mouth and the day you enter school, right till the day you get your fist job and so on. Every new experience you go thru brings them joy and happiness.

But as we grow older, some tend to drift further apart from family without even realising the effects. For instance, socialising with the wrong people leads to the degradation of one's family values. Leaving home to seek employment in another place could be a another factor. I am not indication moving away is a bad idea. (After all, getting a job is definitely a good thing), but it is the later stages that is the topic of concern, with some people taking for granted the existance of their parents/grandparents who once showered them with endless love and care as they fail to make time to visit their elders.

As you can see, in some cases, some family members only appear to be seen around only during a handful of occassions in a year such as during festivities or the passing away of a family member, meaning to say that every visit must have a purpose, which is entirely wrong. Living in a small country where it only takes and hour-and-a-half to travel from one end to the other, we should be grateful that we have the opportunity to visit our loved ones without having to endure so much hassle, as distance should not be the problem.

But unfortunately, some choose to turn a blind eye and continue to neglect the opportunity as they get carried further away in the perceived comfort of their own lives.

Well, thats all from the editor. I too, agree in most of the parts he was refering about..It kinda reflect me abit. It's like ive been really under one roof with ma parents but have i tried to talk to them?? I did but it's jst way too little for them. The same issue goes around and aroundd all the time. same problem all the time. The problem is on me i guess.. I jst really wish I could go back to the days before I was 18 years old.. The happy family we had before and not all the volcanoes eruptions we had most of the time .. ah.... Life's changing but deep inside our heart we know we love each other more than anything. Well, i guess i wil jst need to make more effort into it, i know its going to be hard and not instantly at least i try.. . . . .. ......
