dom·i·nant – adjective
ruling, governing, or controlling; having or exerting authority or influence: dominant in the chain of command.

dor·mant – adjective
lying asleep or as if asleep; inactive, as in sleep; torpid: The lecturer's sudden shout woke the dormant audience.

There was one question for Business exam just now which has something along the lines of how might small firms being dominant affect the UK economy. The oh-so-clever me, confused dominant with dormant. confused At first, I thought dominant means being powerful, then I thought again, maybe it's the opposite of active. You know, like the volcano. And now, I don't remember what answer I wrote. It's probably ambiguous as I wasn't sure of the word "dominant". Well, now I am! How silly...
